Text extraction only works on PDFs with real text layers — documents created from word processors, exported from HTML, or saved from modern applications. Scanned PDFs (photos of paper) contain images, not text, and require OCR software instead. If your text looks garbled, the PDF may use an embedded font encoding that doesn't map cleanly to Unicode.

The free tier supports PDFs up to 10 MB. Most text-heavy documents (reports, papers, manuals) are well under this limit. Large PDFs with many embedded images may be larger — consider splitting them first if needed.
